Crimes Against Humanties Teachers
By
7th - 11th September 7.45pm £10
|
|
‘Intelligent, Quintessentially British and Indisputably Hilarious’ ThreeWeeks ****
A disillusioned Humanities teacher knows he has to leave his school. But how does he leave with dignity and say the things he needs to say? With one hour to go before he gives his leaving speech, he is visited by the ghosts of 'Carry-on' stars. Step forward Kenneth Williams, who believes he is the one to help the teacher be honest, cutting and true. Together they go on a surreal journey through a decade of one man’s teaching career and one man's 50 year comedy career. Both hoping to find answers. Both needing resolution. A rollercoaster ride of original comedy that sells out by word of mouth. Hilarious and poignant, 'Crimes Against Humanities Teachers' is a must see for anyone who has been in a school.
‘Highly recommended…very impressive performers…powerful and touching’ FringeReview ****

Out of The Sun by Roger Stennett
By The New Actors Company
14th September - 2nd October, Tues to Sat 7pm, Sunday 2.30pm £15
|
OUT OF THE SUN
“The long, hot summer of 1940. On an airfield somewhere in southern England four young Spitfire pilots sit on the parched grass outside their Dispersal Hut waiting for the ring of the field telephone that will 'scramble' them into the skies - and combat.
'Desperate Dan' Anderson, Edward 'Weaver' Whyte, Jonathan 'Joker' James - all of them 'veterans' by the age of 21 - and Pilot Officer Young, a fresh-faced 'sprog', new on Squadron that morning. How will they fare between dawn and dusk? How will they fill the quiet moments between the battles up in thin air?
Today, growing old may seem a simple fact of life, but in the summer of 1940 it was a privilege that had to be earned...”
About the Company:
The New Actors Company are delighted to present ‘Out of the Sun’, building on the successes of their first two productions. The New Actors Company believe in creating theatre that is educational, informative and entertaining. Love in The Insecurity Zone by Mike Folie
By PinchOuch! Productions
5th - 23rd October, Tues to Sat at 7.15pm £13
|
PINCHOUCH! return to the Hen & Chickens Theatre with the UK Premiere of MIKE FOLIE’S hilarious and political new play LOVE IN THE INSECURITY ZONE, a futuristic romantic comedy, which has played to rave reviews from New York to LA.
In a future not too far from us, characterized by security zones, personal bar code tattoos, and armed commuters, Gayle finds life either boring or terrifying. Her mood is improved by a sudden romance with Hank, a secretive government agent on a mission to find very happy women. When Hank meets Gayle’s sister, the perennially happy Pearl, he spirits both women off to Washington, D.C., where they become entangled in a sinister government plot to bottle happiness.
MIKE FOLIE’S plays have been produced Off-Broadway, regionally around the U.S. and internationally, winning many awards, and the Dramatist Guild Magazine named him as one of “Fifty Playwrights to Watch.” His play “The Adjustment” toured the UK with Stefanie Powers in the lead.
“This hilarious new play is almost indescribably bizarre. And that’s a good thing. Folie dishes out the incongruity at a nicely measure pace; he waits until just when you think you have things figured out before throwing in another twist” The New York Times
PinchOuch! bring their own comedic skills, timing and expertise to this bizarre and humorous play which exposes our own vulnerabilities in a world where love, politics and personal security are very much on the agenda. LOVE IN THE INSECURITY ZONE is directed by NIKI FLACKS, who has had an impressive career as director, actor, teacher, and psychologist that spans both sides of the Atlantic, including acting opposite Maggie Smith in Private Lives, on Broadway, directed by Sir John Gielgud.
Directed by NIKI FLACKS.
With CAROLINE COLOMEI. JASON DENYER. TRINE GARRETT. HELEN JECKELLS. JOEL MELLINGER. FELIX PRING
